Assistant Manager

In this role you will assist in overseeing day-to-day responsibilities for store operations. You will work closely with the Store Manager to maximize sales as well as other cross-functional partners (merchandising, store operations, and human resources).

Key Job Function and Accountabilities
Sales Generation:
• Achieve personal budgets and maximization of sales in compliance with company policies
• Achieve store budgets and maximize sales in compliance with company policies
• Promote Jean Machine brand, by executing Jean Machine marketing initiatives, such as JM Preferred
• As MOD, prioritize, plan and organize courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently and sales goals are achieved
• Demonstrate sales leadership for staff by playing an active role on the selling floor and making a strong contribution to store overall sales
• Conform to the company’s dress code and present an image that is consistent with the Jean Machine brand
• Promote total customer service in a friendly way and as the most important consideration in every transaction
• Motivate sales staff to meet assigned sales and productivity goals
• Develop and maintain product knowledge
• Ensure all associates provide the highest level of customer service utilizing the “Steps of Selling”
• Ensure special orders are handled efficiently
• Resolve all client problems quickly and effectively and escalate to Management or Head Office as appropriate
• Control store expenses and maintain budgets, continually striving to reduce costs
• Comply with all loss prevention, security policies, and credit policies and procedures
• Ensure accuracy of P.O.S. transactions
• Analyze available sales reports and react appropriately
• Ensure excellence in transfer compliance and communication of stock replenishment needs to Store Manager
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of and comply with all Jean Machine policies and procedures
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Management Team and Head Office
• Execute visual merchandising and marketing strategies and directives accurately and within specified time-lines
• Ensure that merchandise is properly ticketed and attractively displayed
• Maintain a clean, neat, organized and well stocked sales floor
Human Resources
• Recruit and retain store staff, ensuring all positions filled in a timely manner with qualified personnel
• Support, implement and provide follow-up for all training and orientation programs
• Act as a shadow partner to new team members
• In collaboration with the Store Manager, develop associates within their current role and prepare them for their next step within Jean Machine
• Support associates by coaching for performance
• Address poor performance and recommend corrective action to the manager when necessary. Give constructive feedback and demonstrate courage and tact when presenting information.
• Ensure compliance with current legislation, including health and safety, AODA, employment standards and Human Rights
• Be familiar with and practice effective employee relations at all times, ensuring that every associate is treated as per the employee relations policies

1.5 – 3 years of supervisory experience in clothing retail.

College Diploma or University Degree preferred. Specialization in Retail Management or Fashion Merchandising/Design an asset.

Working Conditions:
Full-time salaried management are expected to work 42 hours per week but may be asked to work up to 44 hours.
Able to use a ladder and lift boxes between 1-30lbs.
Available to work nights (minimum 2 closing shifts per week), weekends, Holiday’s and some overnight shifts as needed.
