St Laurent Style Series: Got Them Blues

On this week’s Style Series, I wanted to address a few key trends for summer: crop tops and boyfriend jeans.

Crop tops hit the fashion scene in a big way this spring, with Peter Som, Balenciaga, Carven… the list goes on. And I’ll be honest, the crop top trend is not for everyone, but it’s important to know that it’s not nearly as terrifying as the 90’s Spice Girl version! This season it’s opting for a more mature and comfortable style, with structured fit and better quality fabrics. The key to making this sexy sophisticated instead of overtly sexy, is by what you pair with it.

In this case, I layered a leather jacket and tied a chambray shirt around the waist to give it a “covered up” feel. I added a boyfriend jean to balance out the feminine shape of the crop top.

If you’re not up to baring it all like I did in this look, opt for layering your crop tops with tanks or dresses.

The boyfriend jean started off as a denim trend a few years back now, but due to popular demand it’s become a staple for brands across the board. This classic medium coloured, slightly ripped denim from Gap is the perfect BF go-to. Although they’re true to the ‘oversized borrowed from the boys’ look, they still hold a great feminine shape.

Add a pointed pump and some gold jewellery and you’ve got the perfect balance of boy meets girl.

Stay tuned for our next look!
